Why Your Peppers Aren’t Ripening

(And How to Fix It!)

Some Peppers Are Just Slow

Not all peppers ripen at the same speed! Bell peppers can take up to a month to change color, while hot peppers ripen faster in 10–14 days.

Too Much or Too Little Sun?

Peppers need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, but too much heat (above 85°F/29°C) can stall ripening! Balance is key.

Overfeeding Peppers Can Slow Ripening

Too much nitrogen = big, leafy plants but no ripe fruit! Switch to a low-nitrogen, high-potassium fertilizer to encourage ripening.

Harvest Peppers to Ripen FasterI

Pick a few green peppers, and the plant will rush to ripen the rest! Too many peppers at once can slow things down.

Watch the Weather

If temperatures are too high or too low, ripening slows. Use shade cloths in hot weather and bring peppers indoors before frost hits.
