What type of person are you?

You are healthy and exercise to live longer. Going to the gym and doing your routine seems to be a healthy activity at first sight.

However, new research from the University of British Columbia suggests that even the fittest can’t outrun cardiovascular disease, in other words, it doesn’t matter how much you exercise there is a chance you can have blocked blood vessels that can lead to a heart attack, chest pain or stroke.

In this research 798 athletes were tested and 11 percent were found to have significant cardiovascular disease. What's next you might ask. Read more on how you can stay ahead.

Travel cardiovascular disease

Love what you do, do what you love. The most common quote used for people who absolutely love there work. There is nothing wrong with having passion for your work and execute to your maximum ability.

However, certain researches have shown that in different occupations there is an increased chance of experiencing cardiovascular disease such as a heart attack. Many different researchers conclude that working long shifts or hours increases the risk of having a heart attack due to being increasingly exposed to psychosocial and physical workplace hazards such as high demands (which can cause stress).

It doesn’t hurt to test your self regardless of your busy schedule. There is a solution to make this process time-efficient in which you are still up to date on your own health condition.

Workaholic and cardiovascular disease

What if this all can be prevented?

Always make sure what your health condition is

Too busy for an appointment

Everybody is often busy and fully scheduled. Nobody likes to wait before a doctor can make a diagnosis. Thanks to the technological possibilities this process can be made easier.

Use your 'dead' time to consult

Dr. Leonard Hofstra and Dr. Folkert Asselbergs, head researcher Dr. Pim van der Harst have found a way to develop an interactive chatbot for enabling early identification of cardiovascular diseases.

This will save you time and can easily be activated when you are waiting for your next meeting or are currently traveling to your next destination.

Building the chatbot

The chatbot is able to recognize symptoms of cardiovascular disease using interactive methods in order to refer a user to a specialist at an early stage.

The algorithm supporting the chatbot will formulate appropriate questions based on the answers of a user. According to these answers, the chatbot will be able to determine whether the user has symptoms corresponding to an early or late stage of cardiovascular disease.

When necessary, the chatbot will recommend the user to consult a doctor. The chatbot is 24/7 available on the internet by text messages (SMS) and WhatsApp.

Cycling for cardiovascular disease

Daphne Koolen and eight students from the TU Delft will cycle 3000 km to Sofia, Bulgaria, to raise money for the development of a chatbot. The target has been set at €30.000, with this amount the Heart to Handle foundation is able to fund the realization of this research which includes the development and distribution of the chatbot.
